About the Role:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist plays a critical role in the healthcare system by performing complex laboratory tests that aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent credential from a recognized certifying body such as ASCP or AMT.
  • At least one year of experience working in a clinical laboratory setting performing diagnostic testing.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, quality control procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to accurately perform complex laboratory tests and maintain detailed documentation.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with molecular diagnostics, microbiology, hematology, or clinical chemistry.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and electronic health record (EHR) integration.
  • Advanced certification in specialized areas such as molecular biology or cytogenetics.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience or involvement in laboratory quality improvement initiatives.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests on blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids using automated and manual techniques.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and consistency in reporting findings to physicians and healthcare providers.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
  • Document and review quality control data, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Adhere to all regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA and CLIA, to maintain patient confidentiality and laboratory accreditation.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to discuss test results and provide expert consultation on laboratory procedures and findings.
  • Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advancements in laboratory technology and methodologies.
